Rusty new studies

These past few months I have been drawing again. Mainly focusing on trying to improve my understanding of the human figure in 3 dimensions. I started out really rusty, but am really excited about the fact that I am drawing at all again.

Please forgive the horrible image  quality, I used my phone to take photos, no scanner right now and not worth the trouble of having it done elsewhere.

Here's some figures I drew from either reference or imagination. I think both will be important for learning:

I've also been experimenting with digital coloring and lighting in photoshop, Krita and Clip Studio Paint. I got Clip Studio Paint for christmas, been trying to learn it slowly.

Some digital experiments:

And a candy still life exercise, with more serious attention paid to finishing it:

I'm trying to do some art at least a little every day. I feel like this is a good time for me to get better, I'm out of practice and haven't taken art seriously for over four years, which makes me rusty, but also gives me a great opportunity to get rid of old bad habits since they are dormant too.

My Rock Fish

I haven't had much time to do much art at all lately. I miss it so much.

I did paint this rock like a fish. Jodi's school is doing a theme based on the book "Only one you" by Linda Kranz. It's a really neat idea, all the kids painted a rock like a fish and they did a big installation in the courtyard with all the fish "swimming" along the garden floor. I painted this rock for Jodi's desk. I had a lot of fun doing it, imagining how to fit a fish in the bumps and cracks, I ended up doing a baby fish too, guess I've been immersed in the mommy/baby theme so much it's coming out in my art, lol.

Anyway here it is. I got to try out my iridescent medium on the bigger fish too, that was fun, and different for me.

Something recent and yellow

Something I did for Jodi. The school that she works at has a leopard mascot. Bright yellow unperpainting! I think it came together well in the end, but it was very difficult to work on while it was still in progress, it was just too much yellow, affecting my color perception and getting in the way. I probably won't use bright yellow as an underpainting again :P

Something unfinished and not too recent

It's been too long since I've posted, I feel the need to post something, even if it is not so recent... I need to draw more, so I can post current things.

It's a sketch idea for an image that will never be completed... there is a similar image pair that just might, though ;) but no previews for you, you have to wait. Ha!

Playing with color

Just some more doodles. Maybe if I can do enough of these I will start getting intuitive about coloring. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

Panoramic Planet Project :P

I've been meaning to do this one for a long time. The massive amount of photos I took for this project have been sitting in my "future projects" folder for a little over year. Anyway I finally felt like messing with it, so here it is! My little Home planet, photos from september 2010:

If you wanna try, the tutorial I followed for this is here
Imo it works best if pics are taken with overcast lighting.

A little Skribble

I saw this contest on DeviantArt, it involved making a picture out of some lines. It looked like fun, so I "Skribble"d. Brought back memories of games I played in school and with friends and siblings, many many years ago :p
